Why Homeopathy?
My own experience with Homeopathy began about 23
years ago. I had been bed-ridden for a year with something no one could
figure out. I was exhausted, depressed and didn't understand what was
happening to me. Because the regular medical doctors couldn't figure it
out, it was decided it was all in my mind and I needed to see a
psychiatrist. (Sound familiar?) On the recommendation of a friend I
visited a Homeopath and, without knowing what was causing these strange
symptoms, he was still able to prescribe a remedy. Over the course of
time I improved dramatically. I know, now, what I had was Hashimoto's
Syndrome- an auto-immune thyroid disorder. It was definitely NOT all in
my head. But, it was this whole experience that changed the way I looked
at medicine. |

I used it with my children for everything from chronic bladder
infections to colds and flues. It worked unbelievably well. My curiosity
made me research this "new" form of medicine and I found it was over 200
years old and originated with Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in Germany as a
result of his observations of the barbaric "heroic medical" practices of
his day of "blood-letting, cupping, leaches, etc." He found people were
as likely to die of the cure as the disease. He did his first proving on
Cinchona or Quinine, a treatment for malaria. Problem was, the side
effects were pretty nasty and caused deafness among other things. He
tried to dilute the medicine, which reduced the side-effects, but didn't
cure the disease as well. Then, he figured out if he "concussed" it on a
hard surface a certain number of times.he used 10, at first.that the
medicine worked but there were no side effects. That was the beginning
of homeopathy.
Homeopathy is based on the theory that "Like cures like". In other
words, what a substance will cause in its natural state, it will cure in
its potentized state. For instance, in its natural state arsenic will
cause vomiting, chills, restlessness, diarrhea and various other
symptoms. After it has been diluted and succussed it will cure those
same things. This is an oversimplification, but it gives you the general
idea. It works on all levels of a person, the emotions, the mind and the
body. It can be used for almost any disease and works very well for
emotional imbalances such as depression, anxiety and the like. It does
not replace needed surgery or correct broken bones. It can help broken
bones to knit more quickly, however. But bones still need to be set
traditionally. If you are a diabetic, you would still need insulin.
However, you may be able to become more balanced and need a more
consistent or lower dose. Homeopathy is "complimentary" to traditional
medicine. It can work well with it. It also can stand on its own in a
wide spectrum of cases.
Homeopathy is also very individualized. Each person needs to be figured
out on the basis of their own personal symptoms. Then, an appropriate
remedy is chosen that fits as closely as possible the personality and
physical characteristics of the person. This is the "Constitutional"
dose. It works on the whole person. There is also "Acute" prescribing
which is for the short-term or acute illnesses such as a cold, flu or
stomach upset. Generally lower doses of the remedies are used for this
and they are given more often.
There are many ways to do Homeopathy and many types of Homeopathic
medicines. Bach Flowers are very good for a lot of emotional challenges.
Color remedies can work on the core issues of a person. Organotherapy
works on the various "systems" of the body, like the muscles, bones,
glands, etc. All are "Energy" or "Vibrational" forms of healing. If one
looks at Homeopathy from a traditional point of view, it appears to be
ridiculous and it certainly doesn't look like it could possibly work.
But, if you look at it from a Quantum Physics point of view, you can
begin to understand how it all works. The point is, is DOES work, and it
works well. It's gentle, safe and effective. It doesn't have
side-effects as do so many of today's drugs. And, it can be adjusted to
fit you, personally.
I have worked with my husband, who was an Internist and recently
retired, for 17 years. With his retirement I decided to continue on my
own. He taught me a lot about traditional medicine as well as
Homeopathy. And, I have a Di.hom and DHM from the British Institute of
Homeopathy as well as a Ph.D. in Natural Health Sciences. I am also Bach
Flower certified. If you decide to pursue Homeopathy I believe you will
be pleased with what can be done. |
